Voz passiva e voz ativa

Active and passive voice (The bomb has been planted)

Voz ativa = Eu lavei meu carro
Voz passiva = Meu carro foi lavado (Não tem sujeito; não se sabe quem levou)

Voz passiva serve para dar ênfase na ação e no objeto, reduzindo a importância do sujeito. A voz ativa faz o contrário.

Chefe: Já fez os relatórios?
Você: Os relatórios ainda não foram feito (Reduzindo a culpa do sujeito, você; ocultando a culpa)

Para converter voz ativa em passiva (ou vice-versa) é fundamental conhecer os tempos verbais.

SIMPLE PRESENT:

Mary uses the computer everyday >> The computer is used everyday

to be (am/is/are) + verb in past participle (p.p)

SIMPLE PAST:

Somebody stole my car last night.
My car was stolen last night.

to be in the past (was/were) + past participle

PRESENT CONTINUOUS

The singer is producing a new album
A new album is being produced

To be (is/are/am) + being + past participle (p.p)

PAST CONTINUOUS


My mother was cooking dinner when I arrived.
Dinner was being cooked when I arrived.

To be in the past (was/were) + being + past participle (p.p)

PRESENT PERFECT


Somebody has broken the window.
The window has been broken.

have/has + been + past participle (p.p)

FUTURE


Somebody will clean the room later.
The room will be cleaned later.

will + be (é sempre "be") + past participle (p.p)

TWO OBJECTS

The company paid him 50 dollars.
He was paid 50 dollars.
50 dollars were paid to him.

OUTRAS FORMAS COMUNS

1) People say he is a famous singer.

It is believed that he is a famous singer (Acredita-se que ele é um cantor famoso)

or:

He is believed to be a famous singer. (Acredita-se que ele é um cantor famoso)

2) They say she has five children.


It is said that she has five children. (É dito que... / Dizem que...)

or:

She is said to have five children. (É dito que... / Dizem que...)

3) People expect the strike to end soon.


It is expected that the strike will end soon. (Espera-se...)

or:

The strike is expected to end soon. (Espera-se...)

4) You should do something!


Something should be done (Algo deveria ser feito)

OBSERVAÇÕES

I was born in Brazil (Essa expressão não pode ser passada para a voz ativa)

Coisas que as pessoas fazem p/ a gente também não devem ser colocadas na voz ativa:

I had my nails done (Diz-se assim porque foi algo que alguém fez para o sujeito)
I had my car repaired
